Name:
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5 (digital
camera) Year Acquired: 2005 (new) Equipment Specs: 5.1 mega pixels, Optical 3x zoom, Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens allows for the crispest and clearest images possible, 2.5 inch LCD monitor, 3 specific flash modes, 7 special scene selection modes including 2 special night taking picture modes, can take short videos with sound, playback pictures on LCD screen edit/delete them, 2.5 hours of battery life. Equipped with a SanDisk 256 MB memory card able to take up to 120 5.1 mega pixel pictures. WIX takes pictures at night under the following settings: 0EV, Center Focus or Infinite Focus, Flash with white balance, ISO 400, fine pictures (5.1 mega pixels), SL+ (powered up flash exclusively for dark pictures), we occasionally use an additional flash with the Red Eye Reduction, shutter speed: 30, aperture: 2-4. Batteries: Uses 2 Sony Nickel Metal Hydride Battery AA (primary) and 2 AA (Duracell NiMH rechargeable) (secondary) Paranormal Investigation Uses: This is the most basic and one of the most important pieces of equipment to any ghost hunter. Any, if not most evidence during an investigation is through this medium. With a camera, any images (orbs, mists, shapes, or figures) could be caught on the film/digital memory card. This camera has functions that allow it to take specific pictures at different times during the day. It allows fixing certain apertures and balances for the right conditions. At night, the many different flash options make this camera superb for recording evidence that otherwise might not be seen with human eyes. Also, reviewing the picture that was taken last helps the paranormal investigator figure out if there was anything irregular about the picture that might need more investigating or more pictures. |

Name:
Sony Clear Voice Plus Microcassette Recorder model
number M-570V (analog) Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: 90 minutes of sound recorded on each analog tape (45 minutes on each side- Panasonic Microcassette tape), WIX records at 2.4 speed (normal speed). This recorder has a frequency range of 300-4,000 Hz when the tape speed is at 2.4 speed. WIX does not use this recorder's VOR (Voice Operated Recording) feature because of a possible loss of sound that the recorder might perceive as silence. (VOR allows the recorder to record only when there is noise; and if there is silence, it stops recording until there is noise once again.) Playback is done at normal speed after an investigation with the aid of headphones. Battery: Uses 2 AA (Duracell NiMH rechargeable) Paranormal Investigation Uses: This newer analog voice recorder is used to detect and record any Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). By reviewing the analog tapes, WIX can determine if there were any abnormal sounds or voices at the location that was investigated. |

Name:
Panasonic RR-US360 Digital Voice
Recorder Year Acquired: 2005 (new) Equipment Specs: WIX records with this device under the following conditions: High Quality mode (14 hours recording time), recording source from a distance using the HI condition, and recording under the meeting genre. Battery: Uses 2 AAA (Duracell NiMH rechargeable) Paranormal Investigation Uses: This digital voice recorder operates in the same premise as the analog recorder by possibly picking up Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP- sounds that were not heard at the investigation or that have no known source). However, the digital voice recorder records the sound on the piece of equipment that can then be uploaded to a computer. Using proper software, WIX can accurately and further analyze the sound much better than with an analog voice recorder. WIX uses both the analog and digital recorders because it is possible that only one of the instruments could pick up a specific EVP. |
|
|
Name:
Sony attachable Dynamic Microphone Year Acquired: 2005 (new) Equipment Specs: Microphone has a frequency response of 100-12,000 Hz Paranormal Investigation Uses: WIX uses this microphone with the digital voice recorder. It is used as an extension to the built in recorder that the digital voice recorder uses. The microphone further amplifies sounds that might have been otherwise undetected or too faint to deduce a proper analysis. |

Name:
Radio Shack Digital Sound Level Meter Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: This sound meter has a range of 50 to 126 dB with accuracy at +/- 2 dB at 114 dB SPL. This recorder features two different types of weighting (A and C) and two display responses (fast and slow). Display is shown on a 3-digit LCD screen with a 21 dot analog bargraph with mode and condition indicators. There is also a data hold function to stop the sound monitoring for easy data recording on paper. Battery: Uses 1 Werker 9Volt Paranormal Investigation Uses: The digital sound meter is used to measure how loud sounds are at an investigation. More specifically, this device is used to monitor the level of volume for any abnormal noises. If there were an irregular noise (no known source of that noise) that was detected by this meter, it could be collaborated with any of the sound recording devices to see if this sound were detected and recorded. If the sound were recorded, it is possible to know then how many decibels this sound was and how intense the sound was if it were possible EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena). |

Name:
The Bionic Ear with the Bionic Booster by
Industrial Communications Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: The Bionic Ear and The Bionic Ear Booster amplifies sound up to 100 feet away from the user. The headphones allow the user to adjust the volume, and the Automatic Safety Circuit (ASC) prevents the user from being bombarded with intense sound. The Bionic Ear can be used with a tape recorder, but WIX does not use this feature. Battery: Uses 1 Werker 9Volt Paranormal Investigation Uses: The Bionic Ear along with the Bionic Booster is important because it can pick up faint noises that could not be heard with the naked ear. The user of the Bionic Ear can then direct the user of any sound recording device to the area were an abnormal sound was detected for a possible recording of this irregularity. For most investigations, the user who operates this piece of equipment also uses either the analog or digital recorder in case if they hear any abnormal noise, so they can move in the direction to record this noise. |

Name:
Radio Shack Infrared Thermometer Year Acquired: 2005 (new) Equipment Specs: Detects temperature through the infrared spectrum at a range of 0-400 degrees Fahrenheit (-18-200 degrees Celsius) at a distance of up to one foot, instantaneous feedback for seven seconds with the click of a button or while holding the button the thermometer detects fluctuation within its given range. Battery: Uses 1 Duracell 12Volt Paranormal Investigation Uses: The infrared thermometer detects any spikes or fluctuations in temperature that would be considered as abnormal (WIX considers an abnormal spike to be +/- 7 from the average temperature that should be present at the location). Spikes in temperature, either positive or negative, could be ghosts on the move or in transition to another medium. Mostly, these spikes are severe drops in temperature. |

Name:
Mannix Infrared Thermometer model number IRT 4 Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: This is a precise non-contact thermometer with a laser target pointer. It features automatic data hold, 8:1 optical resolution, Fahrenheit and Celsius reading, and automatic power off. Temperature range is 0-788 degrees Fahrenheit (-20-420 degrees Celsius) with temperature accuracy +/- 4 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) to +2% of reading. Maximum range is at 2.5 feet. Battery: Uses 1 Werker 9Volt Paranormal Investigation Uses: Just like the Radio Shack infrared thermometer this meter operates under the same premise except it has a greater distance range, temperature range, and accuracy rating. This thermometer's purpose is to measure any abnormal spikes in temperature that could correlate to paranormal activity. |

Name:
Silva Polaris Precision Compass (3) Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: This is an easy to read clear base compass with magnetic needle and map distance wheel. It has 2 degree graduation lines, orientating lines, and a declination correction scale. Paranormal Investigation Uses: Although one of the more primitive pieces of equipment, the compass is still one of the most basic and most needed instruments at a haunted location. If the magnetic spins violently, out of control, or even slightly for its normal course, it is detecting magnetic interference. If this interference is ruled unexplainable (not a known source of energy), it could be possible abnormal surges of energy that would have been otherwise undetectable. |

|
Name:
TriField EMF Meter
Year Acquired: 2005 (new) Equipment Specs: WIX uses this device under the following conditions: Reading field is set at High Magnetic with a range of 0-100 milligauss. WIX occasionally will set the reading field at Low Magnetic with a range of 0-3 milligauss. The TriField EMF meter is frequency-weighted from 30-500 Hz and calibrated at 60 Hz. Accuracy is rated at +/-20% of scale reading for magnetic fields. This is a three axis meter that measures in all three directions (X, Y, and Z vectors). Battery: Uses 1 Werker 9Volt Paranormal Investigation Uses: Often called the main piece of any paranormal investigation; this piece of equipment defines the field of paranormal investigation. The EMF (electromagnetic field) can detect various forms of energy/electricity at its given settings. Abnormal amounts are represented often with violent spikes that would be uncharacteristic of the location. Also, some abnormal or unaccounted readings are small or steady movements of the needle. If ghosts do operate or even function by giving off energy in some form of unknown process, a good EMF meter should be able to detect this activity. |

Name:
TriField EMF Meter with Audible Notification
Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: WIX uses this device under the following conditions: Reading field is set at High Magnetic with a range of 0-100 milligauss. This EMF also features audible notification that increases in volume (a humming noise) and intensity when the needle indicates an elevated magnetic field reading (for either High Magnetic or Low Magnetic settings). Battery: Uses 1 Werker 9Volt Paranormal Investigation Uses: This EMF meter operates under the same conditions as the above meter and is the same in all regards of specifications except for this meter features audible notification. The audible notification can give its user a better awareness of any abnormal movements of the needle that might not be directly noticed. For this reason, this EMF meter is of very high importance to any investigation. |

Name:
Mannix ElectroMagnetic Field Tester model number
EMF 1390 Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: This is a single axis EMF meter that shows the actual reading in a numerical value. Values can be read in either tesla or gauss. This meter is frequency weighted at 30-300 Hz. Accuracy is rated at +/- (3% + 3d) at 50 Hz or 60 Hz. Range is at 200/2,000 for gauss (milli) and 20/200 for tesla (micro). Battery: Uses 4 Duracell Alkaline AAA Paranormal Investigation Uses: This meter also measures electromagnetic waves like the above two EMF meters; however, this meter displays its results in an exact digital numerical value. Like the above meters, the values are measured in milligauss but this meter also records in tesla. A drawback to this meter is that it is a single axis meter and can only measure one vector unlike the three directions like the above two meters. This meter's sole purpose is to detect any abnormal electromagnetic fields that cannot be explained from any known sources at the place of an investigation. If these abnormal fields were to exist, it could possibly prove and then be documented as a source of unknown magnetic fields that could account for any ghostly phenomena. |

Name:
Mannix Environmental Meter model number DLAF-8,000 Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: This multi-meter has an anemometer (air velocity), hygrometer (humidity), light meter, and thermometer that is displayed on an 8 mm LCD screen. Air Velocity can be measured in ft/min (range: 80-5,910 ft/min), m/s (range: 0.4-30.0 m/s), km/h (range: 1.4-108.0 km/h), MPH (range: 0.9-67.0 mile/h), and knots (range: 0.8-58.3 knots) where accuracy is at +/- 3-4% of the reading. Humidity is measured in %RH where the range is 10-95%RH with accuracy at +/- 4% of the reading. Light is measured in either Lux (range: 0-2,200 or 1,800-20,000 Lux) or Ft-cd (range: 0-204 or 170-2,000 Ft-cd) where accuracy is at +/- 5% of the reading. Temperature is measured in Fahrenheit (range: -148-2,372 degrees Fahrenheit) or Celsius (range: -100-1,300 degrees Celsius) with accuracy at +/- 1% of the reading. Battery: Uses 1 Werker 9Volt Paranormal Investigation Uses: This unique meter has many purposes; its two main uses are the humidity reading and the luminosity reading. If any ghostly entity were to manifest itself, this meter could then measure any unaccounted for sources of light and give its reading either in Lux (SI unit of illuminance) or in Ft-cd (foot-candle). Humidity measurement is also useful because of cases when there are high amounts of humidity which are consistent with large quantities of "orbs" in photographs where many of these orbs can be explained as humidity orbs. WIX can then measure the relative humidity and evaluate to an even greater detail to discern whether any orbs were the result of high amounts of humidity. The air velocity function is not often used but is still helpful to note unusual amounts of wind when weather forecasts noted either no wind or high amounts of wind that do not correspond correctly with the data taken at the investigation site. Lastly, the thermometer is also helpful to note any unusual spikes in temperature that could be related to abnormal activity present at an investigation. |

Name:
Speedtech Eco Edge Environment and Weather Meter
model number EE-1 Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: This device shows sun and moon information (position and time of sunrise and sunset), has a digital compass (accurate to +/- 5 degrees of reading), an altimeter (up to 29,000 feet or 9,000 meters), barometric pressure (in hPa (millibars/hPa) or in Hg (inches of Mercury)), and a thermometer (in Fahrenheit and Celsius). This meter is also equipped with a backlight. Battery: Uses 2 Energizer CR2032 Paranormal Investigation Uses: WIX primarily uses this meter for its barometric measuring purposes. If there were any cases of unexplained phenomena, WIX would like to record any sudden changes in barometric pressure as possible sources for any abnormal findings. The altimeter and sun and moon information is also helpful for recording technical information during any formal investigation. The compass reading can also be used to adjust properly and read the Silva magnetic compasses. Lastly, WIX rarely uses the thermometer because WIX uses its other specialty thermometers that record temperature as their sole purpose. |

Name:
Geiger Counter
by The Victoreen Instrument Company model number
CDV-715 R Year Acquired: 2006 (used) Equipment Specs: This instrument measures radiation in four different settings (X100, X10, X1, and X0.1). The Geiger Counter has a circuit check and zero button to keep the needle even and steady. This meter was last calibrated in July, 1984. Battery: Uses 1 Werker D Paranormal Investigation Uses: The Geiger Counter's purpose is to measure any radiation or sources of radiation. These sources could also be sporadic bursts of minute radiation that could not be detected without a Geiger Counter. Some people theorize that when or if any ghostly phenomena were to occur, there could be unexplainable traces of radiation that only a Geiger Counter could measure. |
Miscellaneous Accessories

Name and Equipment Specs:
10 Coast TekTorches (flashlights)
that have 3 red L.E.D.s. These flashlights are small, durable, and
come with a black case. Each flashlight requires 3 Duracell 1.5Volt. 2 Brinkman Rebel flashlights that have 1 L.E.D. These flashlights are larger than the Coast TekTorches and also can use three removable lenses (red, blue, and orange) along with its standard white light emission. Each flashlight requires 2 Duracell NiMH AA. 1 Brinkman flashlight that has 1 L.E.D. This is the smallest of WIX's flashlights and only emits white light. This flashlight requires 3 Duracell NiMH AAA. All flashlights are stored in black leather cases that are located in each backpack. Year Acquired: 2005 (new- 2 Rebel flashlights), 2006 (new- 10 Coast TekTorches and 1 Brinkman flashlight) Paranormal Investigation Uses: Flashlights are a must for navigating and investigating in darkness. WIX primarily operates with red flashlights, so the light does not distort any pictures or video images. Also at night, the human eyes are better equipped to see the red light; for if there were anything that would be seen with the eyes (some abnormal activity), it would be easier to see because the eyes would be less strained. The three white flashlights are for cases of emergency or to make out clearly any object/thing in the dark that is hard to discern with the red flashlights. All WIX flashlights contain L.E.D.s (light emitting diodes), which maximize battery power and use, for WIX does not need to deal with burnt out light bulbs. |

Name:
4 Insignia IN-FR 10111 GMRS/FRS Radios Year Acquired: 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: Up to a 10 mile range, 38 privacy channels, 3 call tones, scan function, monitor feature, keypad lock mode, power high and low settings, low battery indicator. Each two-way radio comes with a rechargeable battery pack and a headset. WIX can charge all four battery packs at once with its two chargers (two battery packs per charger). These two-way radios can also be operated with 4 Duracell AA for each two-way radio. Paranormal Investigation Uses: The two-way radios are used when WIX splits into each specific team (Blue, Green, and Orange). Each two way radio is used by the leader from each team, and every two-way radio is set at the same locked frequency. If some paranormal activity is detected, it is easier to communicate over long distances with the two-way radios, and the other teams can then come to the area where there are abnormalities that need to be detected with all or any other specific equipment. There have been proposed theories that indicate paranormal activity only occurs when there are smaller groups of people, so the use of two-way radios help with communication when WIX breaks down into its investigative teams. |

Name:
WIX's Complete Battery Inventory Year Acquired: 2005 and 2006 (new) Equipment Specs: 22 Duracell NiMH AAA, 8 Duracell Alkaline AAA, 20 Duracell NiMH AA, 2 Duracell 12Volt, 14 Werker 9Volt, 2 Werker D, 39 Duracell 1.5Volt, 4 Energizer CR2032 All NiMH batteries are charged before an investigation. (In addition, there are two Sony InfoLitiumP camcorder batteries, two Sony Nickel Metal Hydride Battery AA for the camera, and four Insignia two-way radio battery packs that are all charged before the investigation.) Batteries are housed in plastic bags and then are placed in plastic, static free, waterproof boxes where there is a battery box in each backpack. Paranormal Investigation Uses: There have been many occurrences of draining batteries at an alleged haunted location. WIX loads each piece of equipment with fully charged and functional batteries before each investigation. In addition to the batteries in each piece of equipment, WIX has another battery or set of batteries for each piece of equipment as a backup to help minimize the possibility of abnormal battery drainage. Also, if a piece of equipment is used excessively at a location and uses all of its battery power, the batteries can then be easily replaced. Any equipment that operates with batteries but is without battery power is useless to the user and to the investigation. |
